Order #: 01476 Born in Vienna, Martha Schlamme spent the war years in the UK, for a period of time in an "enemy alien" camp. Famous for her work with Kurt Weill, she eventualy came to the United States and became of them most respected and popoular folk singers of thetimes. Though she recorded in many languages, her Yiddish recrdings are considered her best. As with many of the artists who produced Yiddish recrdings, she was to re-record many of the the same songs as she went from record label to record label. Thiswas a very common practice throughout the music industry, as it went form 78 RPM recrdings to Lps, and again from monaural to stereo technology.these recrdings are now avaialbe for the first time on CD.
